The Benefits of SpinBox as a Site-Side Ad Server
Of the many benefits that SpinBox offers, perhaps the best is that it can be used as a site-side ad server. Using a site-side ad server, as opposed to one that is located at an ISP hundreds or even thousands of miles away from your Web server, not only allows ads to be served much more quickly, but also gives publishers and advertisers much more freedom in how they use the ad server.
When a Web site includes a call to an ad on a server that is physically located far from the Web server that the site is on, ads generally take much longer to appear. This is because of the process necessary to complete this task: first, the client must do a DNS lookup to find the Web server and ad server; the client then contacts the Web server; then, the Web server must contact the ad server, which could take a relatively long time; the ad server must then send the ad to the Web server; finally, the Web server sends the ad, and the rest of the Web page, to the client.
By using SpinBox as a site-side ad server, the time this process takes can be cut in half. Instead of the Web server having to go through the process of contacting the ad server at a separate location and retrieving the ad, because the SpinBox and the Web server are located side by side, the time it takes for the client to download an ad is the same as the time it takes for the client to download the rest of the Web page. SpinBox and the Web server are also on the same domain, cutting the time required for DNS lookup in half. The fact that no database is required makes the process even faster.
Using SpinBox as a site-side ad server also reduces costs greatly. Depending on the setup and ISP used, the only possible cost would be those incured by hosting an additional server. Aside from this, there are no extra costs or CPM fees; the amount of views or clicks an ad gets does not drive up costs as it would if the ad serving were outsourced.
The simplicity of SpinBox's setup and use gives it even more of an advantage. It is a plug and play system, and can be set up with nothing more than an ethernet cable and an IP address. No software engineer or technician is necessary, and SpinBox is compatible with any operating system and Web server configuration. SpinBox's interface is entirely Web-accessible, and the software can be periodically updated by SpinBox's support staff.
